Collections and Registrations Assistant

Museum of Brisbane is seeking a Collections and Registration professional to join a highly respected cultural organisation.

Part time role 4 days per week, $48,000 per annum ($60,000 per annum FTE)

About Museum of Brisbane

The Museum of Brisbane (MoB) is dedicated to celebrating the stories, places, and people of Brisbane.  As the City’s leading social history and art museum, MoB offers a vibrant, inclusive and dynamic program of exhibitions and programs year-round for locals and visitors to the City.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employ practices and concepts of professional museum registration methods and follow collection management procedures and practices to national and international standards.
  • Utilise the Museum’s Collection Management System to produce records and reports, document loan activities and track object movements.
  • Assist in the delivery of a dynamic exhibition program at the Museum, including artwork displays across multiple premises.
  • Assist with the install and demount of exhibitions, daily maintenance of objects on display and general object movement, transport and handling.
  • Establish and cultivate relationships with lenders, artists, contractors and other institutions regarding exhibitions, acquisitions, copyright tasks and general enquiries.
  • Assist in investigating and obtaining copyright or image permissions for the Collection and loans
  • Take all safety measures when performing duties to ensure the safety of yourself and others, and comply with Museum of Brisbane’s WHS policies, procedures, and Government legislation.
  • Other duties from time to time as required.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will demonstrate all or most of the following:

  • Collections or Registration experience in a museum or gallery setting, with a minimum of two years’ experience.
  • Experience in object and artwork handling, and the ability to perform a range of physical tasks associated with packing, unpacking, moving and installation of artworks.
  • Sound knowledge of national and international principles, practices and concepts of professional museum registration methods, including preventative conservation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders sensitively and effectively.
  • Proven ability to participate as a positive and productive team member, work independently and as part of a team and with a high degree of flexibility, and to creatively problem solve.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office and Collection Management Systems such as Vernon, Axiell Emu or MOSAiC in a museum or gallery setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of and interest in art, culture and history with a tertiary degree or equivalent experience in history, museum and/or arts administration.
