Full-time | $100,000–$120,000 + super + benefits

Lead a landmark Aboriginal art and culture centre with a 40-year legacy

Based in remote Gunbalanya, you’ll be responsible for the stability, sustainability and growth of a dynamic Aboriginal art and culture centre. Reporting to the board of directors, you’ll provide culturally grounded leadership that supports over 150 artists, sustains vital cultural traditions and generates income through art sales, tourism and partnerships.

This is a unique opportunity to live and work in a remote community at the heart of one of the world’s richest artistic traditions, while contributing to the wellbeing and prosperity of Injalak’s members.

What we offer

  • $100,000–$120,000 + 12% super
  • Rent-free, furnished housing + utilities + limited internet
  • 6 weeks’ annual leave + leave loading + additional time in lieu

What you’ll do

  • Provide strategic, financial and operational leadership for Injalak Arts
  • Support artists through culturally informed projects, exhibitions and sales across painting, fibre, carving, printmaking and textiles
  • Strengthen governance by working closely with the board of directors and respecting cultural authority
  • Manage budgeting, reporting and audits while growing and diversifying income from sales, tourism, grants and partnerships
  • Lead and mentor staff, supporting Aboriginal employment and building a positive workplace culture
  • Oversee tourism activities including rock art tours and workshops, enhancing visitor engagement and revenue
  • Maintain Injalak’s facilities, vehicles and site and plan for future capital projects

What you’ll bring

  • Senior leadership experience in an Aboriginal art and culture centre, arts organisation or similar community enterprise
  • Strong cross-cultural skills and the ability to work respectfully with Kunwinjku people and related cultures
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal art and culture in Arnhem Land and its national and international context
  • Financial and business management capability, including budgeting, reporting and revenue growth
  • Ability to lead and support staff, build effective teams and maintain a safe, respectful workplace
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with resilience to work in a remote setting
