Ginninderra Creek has been a constant presence in my life. I grew up just metres from its edge, in a home backing onto a reserve. My childhood unfolded in its rhythms, wandering among willows, paddling in ponds, and cycling the winding paths. Now living nearby with my own family, I return often, sharing this connection as we watch birds and insects, learn the shapes of trees, and trace ripples across the water.
This body of work centres on eco printing as both process and translation of place. Using botanicals gathered along the creek, I imprint their pigments, textures, and forms onto fabric and paper. Each piece becomes a direct translation of place, shaped by season, weather, and chance. The resulting textiles move gently with air and light, echoing the shifting atmosphere of the landscape.
Where the Light Dances draws on the Ngunnawal meaning of “Ginninderra”: sparkling, throwing out little rays of light. It acknowledges the Ngunnawal people as traditional custodians of this region and honours the enduring presence of the creek within the landscape.
About the Artist
Josie Cosgrove is a visual artist working across textiles, photography, and botanical printing. Her practice is process-driven, grounded in experimentation and a deep engagement with natural materials. Drawing on her connection to the Canberra landscape, she uses eco printing to capture the pigments, textures, and imprints of local flora, creating works that reflect the quiet complexity of the environment. Since completing a Bachelor of Photography in 2012, she has bridged her artistic and professional practice through Dream Pieces, her photography business documenting meaningful moments for families and artists.
