Join Australian pianist and composer Andrea Keller for a special workshop exploring improvisation, creativity and composition.

Andrea Keller is one of Australia’s most original and influential voices in improvised jazz and art music. A multi-award-winning pianist and composer, she has released over 20 albums of her work, forging a distinct sound at the forefront of jazz and improvised music.

With a passion for sharing the art of improvisation and methods for cultivating creativity, Andrea has created resources to inspire creative learning in music teachers and students.

In this special workshop presentation, Andrea demonstrates her approach to practising improvisation and how she turns improvisational material into compositions and vehicles for further improvisatory explorations.

Key areas of investigation include:

• Free improvisation as a tool for creative learning

• Concepts and starting points for improvisation and composition

• Cultivating creativity in musicians at all stages

This workshop empowers teachers and students whose predominant focus is on notated music with strategies and resources to explore improvisation and the creation of original music.

This is a practical workshop and participants are encouraged to bring their instrument, if applicable

All instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome to attend.

No prior experience in jazz or improvisation is required.
