In this facilitated workshop, Emily Bowman will guide participants through a process that explores what it means to improvise, carry, balance, rest with, negotiate, listen to, and move with/alongside rocks.
Drawing on contact improvisation, somatic practice, ecological movement research, and more-than-human choreographic approaches, the workshop considers how rocks might function as collaborators, actants, and companions.
As a collective, the participants will investigate how rocks, bodies, and places invite us into forms of attention that are slower, more porous, less certain, and responsive to what is emerging in the moment.
Emerging from Emily’s ongoing research into practising and experiences of mothering, the workshop invites participants to consider how bodies support and are supported by the worlds around them. What becomes possible when we take time to return to our bodies, each other, and the worlds with which we are already entangled?
This workshop runs from 10:00AM–12:00PM in the Performance Space.
This free workshop is open to people of all ages and movement experience. Attendees are invited to participate in a way that feels comfortable.
