In this full day workshop with literary agent Alex Adsett you will get a behind the scenes look at how to navigate the fine print and unspoken rules of the publishing industry—the different publishing departments and where a literary agent sits in the process, what an agent can do for you, and when you don’t need one, copyright essentials, sneaky tricks and traps of publishing contracts, copyright, defamation, First Nations IP Principles, the different ways to pitch to publishers and agents (and what not to do), and an opportunity to try out a live practice pitch on the day.

Alex Adsett is a literary agent and publishing consultant with almost 30 years’ experience working in the publishing and bookselling industry. She has managed Alex Adsett Literary since 2008, and as a consultant has helped thousands of authors review and negotiate their publishing deals. As a literary agent, she represents over 40 authors and illustrators, including Melissa Lucashenko, Dinuka McKenzie, Melanie Saward, and many more.
