Looking to start creating sketches for your socials? Got a funny character or an idea you’d love to turn into a comedy sketch?

Join Roz Hammond on November 10 for an interactive Business of Comedy networking evening exploring the rhythms and principles of sketch writing and character performance.

Roz has performed in hundreds of hours of television sketch comedy, including Full Frontal, Eric, The Micallef Programme, Skithouse, Kinne and ten seasons of Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell, alongside live sketch shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

The evening will be MCed by Stig Wemyss of Mezzanine Films, a sketch performer in his own right. You might recognise Stig as ‘Michael’ from Colin Carpenter, the television comedy starring Kym Gyngell.

Drawing on her experience, Roz will guide you through the creative process, from finding a promising idea to developing characters and bringing your sketch to life.

Throughout the evening, you’ll:

  • Explore what makes a sketch a sketch.

  • Learn how rhythm, structure and timing help a sketch work.

  • Generate ideas and identify familiar sketch tropes.

  • Develop characters with clear personalities and comic potential.

  • Workshop your ideas in small groups.

  • …and some of you will perform your finished creation for the audience.

Whether you’re a comedian, content creator, performer or simply keen to try something new, this is a chance to get involved, experiment and meet other people interested in making comedy.

Drinks and nibbles will be provided.
