Join us for a captivating evening of French Art Song performed by the talented cohort of young singers at Opera Scholars Australia. Experience the beauty and passion of this exquisite repertoire as our rising opera stars showcase their vocal prowess and emotional depth. From the enchanting melodies of Debussy and Faure, to the dramatic storytelling of Ravel, immerse yourself in the artistry and sophistication of French musical tradition.

Art Song emerged in the 19th Century and has been a popular form of musical expression for composers and singers ever since. It is a genre of classical music that is typically composed for solo voice and piano to express the sentiments of poetry through music. Our Scholars have been hard at work interpreting these beautiful texts – getting to the heart of the emotional truth they represent!

Our four finalists will present a short program of their choosing accompanied by Dean Sky-Lucas and Rhodri Clarke – celebrated opera singers Peter Coleman-Wright AO and Cheryl Barker AO will adjudicate. Board Member Ian Johnston and his wife Susan have generously donated a $2000 prize for our winner to further their studies and our runner up receives a French language course from the Alliance Française Melbourne. All finalists obtain a video of their program to submit for external competitions, applications and scholarships.

The performance commences at 7.30pm and will conclude when we crown our winner at 10.30pm.

Hawthorn Arts Centre – 360 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn (parking is available behind the Arts Centre via Kent St or Oxley Rd.)
