Grassroots Comedy is keeping Monday nights interesting with free live stand-up, touring comedians, charity fundraising and a weekly comedy writers’ gathering at the Bassendean Hotel.
Perth’s Monday night entertainment scene has a welcome addition, with Cap Off Comedy bringing a weekly showcase of stand-up comedians to the Bassendean Hotel, affectionately known as The Basso.
Presented by Grassroots Comedy and run by comedians Xavier Susai and Roz Kiamko, the show features a rotating lineup of Perth favourites, emerging talent, national performers and touring drop-ins. Every Monday at 7.30pm, audiences can enjoy 60 minutes of live comedy, completely free of charge.
There’s a community element too. Cap Off Comedy supports local charities, volunteer organisations and small fundraisers, with optional donations collected for community causes. It’s an opportunity for smaller organisations to raise funds while introducing themselves to a wider Perth audience.
The evening actually starts at 6.30pm with Monday Night Write Club, an informal gathering for aspiring and experienced comedians to discuss their writing, workshop jokes, test ideas or simply dedicate some time to developing new material.
The Bassendean Hotel also offers its Monday steak special, making it an easy option for dinner, drinks and live entertainment without heading into the city.
For locals around Bassendean, Bayswater, Guildford, Midland and Perth’s eastern suburbs, Cap Off Comedy provides a regular Monday night outing with a different lineup every week.
