Join Platform Arts’ Artistic Director, Dr Amber Smith, as they discuss the works featured in our current program, Collective Mothering.
FRI 04 SEP and FRI 02 OCT | 11:00AM
Collective Mothering brings together artist-mothers whose practices explore care, kinship, and communal continuity. Through new commissions, existing works, performance, and publishing, the project considers how acts of mothering shape our relationships with ourselves, our families, our communities, and the world around us.
At its centre is the idea of mothering as a practice rather than an identity; one that extends with and beyond the maternal body and traditional definitions of family. Inclusive of diverse lived experiences, mothering is understood here as a way of nurturing, sustaining, teaching, protecting, and creating connection.
Running time: 30 minutes.
Attendance is free, but registration is required.
The Collective Mothering exhibition is accompanied by a rich program of workshops and events, for parents and families. To learn more, visit platformarts.org.au
Collective Mothering is supported by a City of Greater Geelong 2025-26 Creative Commissions Grant.
