Wollongong Conservatorium of Music is delighted to present Beyond the Notes, a special piano masterclass with internationally experienced pianists Ivan Horvatic and Andrew Rumsey.

This masterclass offers young pianists the opportunity to perform, explore and refine their repertoire with two experienced musicians bringing distinct perspectives to the piano.
Swiss-Croatian pianist Ivan Horvatic brings a wealth of experience from the international concert and competition stage, combining virtuosity, imagination and a strong European performing tradition. Alongside him, Australian pianist, AMEB examiner and WollCon faculty member Andrew Rumsey brings extensive experience as both a performer and educator, with particular insight into what transforms a well-prepared performance into one that truly communicates.
Together, Ivan and Andrew will work with selected students on their chosen repertoire, exploring not only what to improve, but how to improve it. Topics may include technique, tone, interpretation, stylistic understanding, memorisation, performance preparation, managing performance anxiety and communicating with greater freedom and conviction.
Whether preparing for an AMEB examination, competition, audition or concert, students will gain practical insights into how professional musicians approach repertoire and prepare for performance.
Short After Masterclass Concert
The masterclass will conclude with a short performance by Ivan and Andrew, providing audiences with an opportunity to hear the artists in performance.
