Slow down, look closely and create your own imagined creature in Creatura, an immersive sculpture workshop inspired by Anatomy Lessons by Michele Beevors.
Begin with a guided exploration of the exhibition, where you’ll reflect on what you notice, what you feel and how art can hold space for emotions such as grief, wonder and hope. Through playful Surrealist exercises you’ll develop ideas for hybrid creatures that combine features from different animals and imagined species.
Using florist wire, pipe cleaners and reclaimed materials such as bottle caps, electrical wires and fabric, you’ll build a small-scale sculptural “beast” from skeleton to soft body. The processes of wrapping, binding and layering become a mindful, meditative act, echoing Beevors’ exploration of interconnectedness, climate change and species extinction.
Create one creature or a small herd of abstract beings that embody resilience, transformation and care. Along the way, you’ll have opportunities to draw, photograph and journal, deepening your personal response to the exhibition.
No previous art experience is required. This workshop welcomes anyone curious about sculpture, sustainability, mindfulness and the healing power of creative practice with artist Amy Scully, who also holds an Artist Therapy Diploma.
