Poetica Petit is featuring Poet Rhonda Cowell, who shares her work in an intimate setting. Miriam Hechtman will MC the night of poetry and music, with open mic opportunity for everyone.
Rhonda Cowell is a spoken word poet based in Sydney, born in Jamaica and raised in south east London from the age of four.
Her work sits in the intersectionality of Blackness, motherhood and womanhood, exploring the tensions between them. She examines this through her own story of immigration and experience of raising her daughter, using poetry to make sense of both.
Relatively new to Sydney’s poetry scene, she has made waves featuring at Sydney Poetry Lounge and twice at Bread & Butter, the first poet to do so within a single year. She recently competed in the Australian Poetry Slam Sydney Final in October, weeks before welcoming a new addition to the family.
