Melbourne’s Malthouse Theatre’s arts in education program called Prompt aims to develop the next generation of arts leaders by supporting teachers to remain inspired and engaged themselves and take those uplifting emotions with them to their classrooms. It begins with the idea that teachers and students are artists and practitioners. ‘We forget that artists work in many contexts, not just in the large-scale productions on our main stage,’ say Malthouse Theatre associate producer Josh Wright. ‘For many young people the first director they ever meet is their drama teacher.’
