The residencies for Bundanon will be awarded biennially, with set dates for each of the following two annual placements. The Rome and Bundanon residencies will be advertised in alternate years, and we will also be offering Development grants annually.

An unsuccessful application for a residency will automatically qualify for an assessment for a Development Grant. There will be no need to apply separately for this.

We will be announcing the successful applicants at the end of August. We will notify applicants by email after this.

In 2025, we are advertising the Rome residency for 2026.

The last awardees for the Bundanon residencies are:

  • 5–18 June 2023: Rosy Lloyd
  • 3–16 June 2024: Amy Dynan

Our winners are highlighted in News.

Accommodation is provided and we will provide a $2000 stipend to help with the other costs involved.

Accommodation

The Fern Apartment has one bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a bathroom. The kitchen is shared with one other apartment. Adjoining is a 34m2 studio with a sitting room, with a work-table, chairs, easel and sink. The apartment is wheelchair accessible.

Eligibility

Any Australian resident is eligible to apply. Preference is given to emerging and mid-career artists, to help develop their careers.

The William Fletcher Foundation is committed to supporting talented artists who are sincerely devoted to maintaining and developing the skills of drawing and painting. This does not rule out innovative approaches or variable media, but it does exclude technological alternatives such as CGI that dispense with traditional material such as chalk, ink, graphite, silverpoint, pastel, watercolour, gouache or oil paint.

Applicants must be able to be self-sufficient in being able to reach Bundanon, as well as self-cater.

Location

Bundanon is within easy reach for visitors from the nearest cities: 2½ hours by road from Sydney and Canberra, 20 minutes from Nowra on the Shoalhaven River, and one hour from the Southern Highlands and Wollongong. The final 3 km of road from Nowra winds its way through bushland, descending to the Shoalhaven River basin.
