All That We Are offers a range of creative spaces for individuals and groups to undertake self-directed residencies in the tranquil beauty of Tasmania.
Joining us for a residency provides time for you to focus on nurturing your capacity and meeting your personal needs. It’s an opportunity for time out of your usual routines and spaces to develop your practice. This is time for you to do what you need to do in your own time.
We offer two alternative spaces for your residency:
Your residency in the main residence comes with private room accommodation, a shared bathroom and kitchen, a large bright co-working space with extraordinary views across tidal waters and access to a large library. Catering is DIY in your own small kitchen equipped with everything you need. The main residence is ideal for one to two artists, but small groups/friends (up to 4) can come if you are willing to share rooms (4x single beds). Partners of visiting artists can be accommodated at an additional charge and by request only. The main residence spaces are well suited to reflection, research, writing and co-creation. It’s perfect for researchers, makers and musicians to come together to create together or for individuals, such as writers, to work independently and come together to share their ideas and project progress with others if they wish.
A residency in The Shaper Studio gives you a completely independent 72sq m space suitable for a single or couple. It has a bedroom, kitchen living room and well-lit painting studio. There is a composting toilet and specially designed semi-outdoor shower. It has easy car access and is just 100 m from the main house. There is a wood-burning heater to keep you warm in the winter and a deck to hang out on in the summer.
We are on five acres of land an near to an amazing abundance of beaches and bush for cycling, walking and exploring by car. We are just 20 minutes from Hobart airport on the beautiful Eastern shore – easy to access Hobart, MONA and incredible beaches and bush.

Your hosts are highly experienced artists and researchers and welcome you into their art-filled home. This residency can be an opportunity for your professional development – taking time to reflect, strategise and develop new work. We offer a 20% discount on an optional creative coaching package to support the direction of your practice, during your stay.
All That We Are is part of a new international movement of research – live environments fostering creativity, creative solutions and exploring other methods of living. Founders Dr Simon Spain and Victoria Ryle have opened their home, property and lives to artists, researchers and organisations to engage in big ideas, reflect, be immersed in the extraordinary natural landscape and take time to refocus on the things that matter.
