City of Casey Council is seeking to commission an artist/s to create an artwork for the Ballarto Road Family and Community Centre (interim name) under development on Riverland Road, Clyde.
We are inviting expressions of interest (EOI) from artists to develop concepts for a free-standing sculpture/s.
The curatorial theme for this commission is simply – colour! This public artwork should invite viewers to experience colour as a language that speaks across cultures, histories, and personal narratives.
Why Colour?
- Universal and Accessible to all. Colour is a universal sensory experience. It transcends language and can be appreciated by people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Emotionally inspiring – Colours evoke moods—blue can calm, red can energize, yellow can uplift. This emotional palette can shape how people feel in a space.
- Urban marker – this colourful artwork will act as a landmark to this new development.
Commission Aims
- To create new public artworks to enrich the Ballarto Road Family and Community Centre.
- To create a work which is made of durable material ensuring the work can be appreciated and enjoyed for many years to come.
- To provide a professionally executed public artwork that complements the existing public artworks in the City of Casey’s growing collection.
- To boost civic pride in our shared open spaces through the installation of public art.
Artists are invited to submit an EOI in response to the brief. A shortlist of four artists will be selected by the Public Art Selection Panel to proceed to concept development. Concept design submissions will be reviewed and assessed by the Public Art Selection Panel. The preferred concept will be selected to proceed to detailed design to deliver the selected concept.
