Knox City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from artists, designers, artist collectives or project managers for the delivery of public artwork honouring the life and work of Yorta Yorta and Yarra Yarra Elder, Aunty Dot Peters.
This is a First Nations woman/ women/ women-identifying designated project.
An overall budget of $158,000 (ex GST) has been allocated for the design, fabrication and installation of a public artwork.
The artwork will embody the following project objectives, developed through consultation with First Nations representatives and key stakeholders to guide the artistic principles of the work:
- Celebrate the life and work of Yarra Yarra and Yorta Yorta Elder, Aunty Dot Peters
- Reflect the themes of respect, care and leadership
- Be a site of gathering, pause and education
- Promote First Nations stories, connections to country, culture and heritage
- Drive place-based arts and cultural tourism along Blind Creek
- Support Council’s Placemaking and Neighbourhood activation objectives through engaging creative spaces.
This commission is supported by the Victorian Government as part of the Victorian Women’s Public Art Program.
Knox is located on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong country at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges.
Council acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people and Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation as Traditional Custodians of the land in Knox.
Council acknowledges the Knox Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities come from a variety of different Nations within Australia including the Torres Strait, the Traditional Custodians and Stolen Generation.
We pay respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, past and present, who have lived in the area and have been an integral part of the region’s history.
