Hobsons Bay and Wyndham City Councils are seeking up to 24 creatives from the western regions of Melbourne to participate in the ‘Transcriptions’ project as part of the Wunder Gym professional development program.

Led by acclaimed artist and mentor James Nguyen, through workshops and shared resources, participants will create work towards an exhibition and several temporary art activations across Hobsons Bay and Wyndham City during Melbourne Fringe Festivals program (30 September to 19 October 2025). 

The program will run from 21 July to 19 September 2025.  

Participation is free; however, participants are expected to commit to the program’s entirety. 

Three online Q & A sessions will be held on: 

Expressions of Interest (EOI)  can be submitted via Smart Grants from 9am Monday 12 May until 3pm Wednesday 9 July 2025. 

Eligibility  

  • Artist who reside in the western regions of Melbourne.
  • Participants must be over the age of 18 years.
  • Applicants must agree to commit to participating in the program’s entirety. 

To ensure accessibility and diversity, previous participants who have engaged in the program three times are not eligible. 

Please note: Hobsons Bay & Wyndham based artists will be given priority.  

About Wunder Gym:

Wunder Gym is a unique professional development program for artists and creative practitioners at all career stages. 

Through the program, participants create new work for an exhibition outcome with the support of an established artistic mentor. Wunder Gym participants develop new skills and techniques, extend their creative practice, engage with new audiences and connect with a broad network of practising artists.

This program is delivered as part of Council’s Creative Exchange Lab program. With components presented in partnership with other western region LGAs and arts organisations, Creative Exchange Lab supports western region artists to develop skills, share ideas and resources, and produce artistic outcomes within Hobsons Bay and beyond.
