Here’s your chance to help shape a special new space in the heart of Camden. We’re delighted to share an exciting new opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and artist teams. Camden Council is seeking Expressions of Interest to create a public artwork for the John Street Pocket Garden in Camden Town Centre as part of the John Street Public Domain Upgrade and Activation Project.
The commission will form part of a new gathering and reflection space, celebrating Country, culture, story and place through contemporary public art. Guided by the theme Connecting with Country, artists are invited to respond to the site’s cultural significance, local ecology, waterways, cultural histories, language, seasonal knowledge and native landscape.
The artwork may take many forms, including sculpture, storytelling elements, integrated seating, mosaics, paving or another creative approach. With a commission budget of up to $50,000 excluding GST, where applicable, this is a wonderful opportunity to help shape a welcoming public space where community can connect, reflect and learn.
EOI Applications close 16 November 2026. No concept design is required at Stage 1. If this opportunity speaks to your practice, we encourage you to learn more and submit an Smarty Grants Expression of Interest form through Camden Council’s website.
