Wyndham City Council is excited to present an opportunity in Wyndham for an emerging First Nations artist to develop their creative practice in public space alongside artist Kait James.
As part of Wyndham City’s ongoing commitment to Foregrounding in Public Art projects, a unique paid mentorship program designed for an emerging Bunurong/Boonwurrung or other First Nations artist located in Victoria is being offered to creatives who are interested in developing their practice in public spaces beyond the gallery walls. The mentorship is an opportunity offered by Wyndham City and Deakin University’s Public Art Commission, to contribute to the production of a significant public artwork led by Kait James, that celebrates First Nations culture and country in Naarm’s west and responds to the historical infrastructure of the Main Sewage Outfall and the associated renewal project, Greening the Pipeline.
This paid opportunity will help the mentee to gain experience and knowledge from renowned Wadawurrung artist Kait James, while working with a diverse and supportive team of curators, landscape designers, production coordinators and crew. This program is aimed at providing hands-on experience and knowledge in the complexities of making a major public artwork.
