Emerging NSW-based writers and journalists are invited to apply to receive real-world paid journalism experience, mentorship, and training in defamation, cultural safety and technical skills such as using a Content Management System and SEO content optimisation.

 

The fellowship is a new arts and cultural journalism mentorship program by ArtsHub and supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW. Designed to bridge the gap between study and professional journalism experience for emerging arts journalists and writers in NSW.

 

Over a six-month period, 10 participants will gain real-world journalism experience as they are mentored and trained by ArtsHub’s award-winning, experienced journalists, editors and media industry leaders.

 


Fellowship Program Includes:

One-on-one mentoring with senior journalists and editors

Practical journalism experience including research, interviewing, editing and publishing

Workshops on multimedia storytelling, ethics, and audience engagement

Opportunities to publish work across Creative Hubs Group’s media platforms of ArtsHub and ScreenHub

Paid professional journalism work in partnership with cross-sector partner

Application Requirements:

1. Based/living in NSW currently and through the entirety of the Fellowship.
2. Emerging as defined as in the first 5 years of practice or under 28 years old.
3. Applicants must be able to demonstrate some. Relevant professional experience
4. Must be available through the Fellowship period Sept 2025 to March 2026.
5. Supply a 300 word sample review or critique of a real-world performance, exhibition, book or piece of media to demonstrate your current writing skills and style
6. A 30sec video presentation about your review or critique. This can either be shot and uploaded using the button in this form or uploaded to a third-party platform. This is to demonstrate presenting skills rather than technical.
