About the Artist in Residence Program

Canberra Glassworks is offering two places with the 2026 Graduate in Residence program for artists who have recently graduated university, TAFE or other training programs. This residency is for artists who have achieved significant recognition for their technical and artistic work during their studies.
The residency provides artists with a place and time for research and development, creating a new body of work, developing an idea or continuing along a theme.

Each New Graduate AiR will be provided with:

  • a stipend of $500
  • $500 budget to be used for mentoring
  • a studio desk workspace
  • access to workshop areas including use of kilns, flameworking, cold shop, hotshop and mould room

Artists must be skilled with the equipment that they are proposing to use and be able to work independently in the studio.

Share accommodation in The Chapel can be provided for interstate artists depending on availability. Equipment and facilities are shared with a range of artists through a booking system.
Residents will be expected to participate in the residency on a full-time basis for the duration of four to six weeks. Participants in this program make a significant contribution to the cultural life of the Glassworks. It is part of the program for residents to engage with other artists and the public. They are expected to give a public talk or demonstration at the conclusion of their residency.
