Knox City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from artists, artist collectives or project managers for the delivery of the Boronia Station Public Art Project.
An overall budget of $200,000 ex GST has been allocated for the design, fabrication and installation of three public artworks.
We are seeking public artworks that support wayfinding elements and celebrate the distinct character of the area. The artworks will be located at three confirmed sites within the new plaza adjoining the train station, identified in collaboration with Knox Council and the Level Crossing Removal Project Team.
The overall project aims to improve safety around the Boronia Train Station and surrounding areas and create accessibility between the station and shopping precinct.
A key priority of the public art components for the Boronia Station Upgrade is to reflect and respond to the unique identity of Boronia. Informed by recent community consultation, the artwork will contribute to enhancing the area’s nightlife, support placemaking initiatives and events, and incorporate features that will complement the overall plaza design. An emphasis is to improve visibility and promote a sense of safety for all users whilst creating a recognisable identity for the location.
Expressions of Interest (EOI) will be conducted in two (2) stages. Three applicants will be shortlisted for stage 2, each receiving $3,000 to develop concept design drawings, demonstrating high calibre innovation and capacity to undertake the project on a technical level.
Project commencement is scheduled for July 2026, with installation anticipated in early 2027 following handover of the site to Council.
Stage One submissions to be received through the Knox e-tender portal, Knox City Council Website – https://knox.etenderbox.com.au/
