Monash University Performing Arts Centres
Applications now open for MPAC’s 2027 Commissions Program
MPAC’s 2027 Commissioning Program opens with two opportunities for artists and collaborators ready to test ideas with academic partners and bring fresh work to audiences.
Why MPAC commissions
As part of a public‑facing arts centre within a global research university, MPAC commissions new work that sits at the meeting point of practice and inquiry, supporting artists to prototype, iterate and premiere. We connect artists to Monash researchers and facilities to deepen rigor, spark new methods and expand impact.
Two streams
- MPAC Creative DevelopmentsDesigned for the “what if?” stage, this stream provides short residencies and practical support to build a proof‑of‑concept for consideration in future commissioning and presentation. Projects in theatre, dance, music or multi-arts are eligible, and they must engage with an area of Monash University research, whether from sustainability, health, law, journalism, computer technologies,data, education and beyond.
- David Li Sound Gallery CommissionA focused commission for composers and sound artists to generate new work, from creative development to performance-ready, as part of the MPAC presents program. Innovative chamber, spatial and experimental music using the Meyer Constellation active acoustic system in the David Li Sound Gallery, our 130‑seat space, allows artists to sculpt the room itself as an instrument.
Who should apply
We welcome artists at all career stages, including collectives, who are keen to collaborate across disciplines and meaningfully embed research in their process.
Selection and support
Proposals are reviewed by an MPAC/Monash panel with external assessors. Selected artists receive developmental support (technical/logistical), curatorial guidance and introductions to relevant Monash researchers. Shortlisted projects may include work‑in‑progress showings and public talks as part of MPAC’s program.
How to apply
Submit online with:
- A 200‑word overview of your project;
- A 300‑word note on the research area you’ll engage with; and
- A 300‑word two‑year development timeline.
Applications close 29 May 2026
