Eastern Creek Quarter Shopping Centre in Western Sydney is seeking a Dharug or First Nations artist to create a powerful cultural statement at the shopping centre’s main entrance. This isn’t just about painting a wall – it’s about creating a meaningful marker of presence on Dharug Country.

The selected artist will lead a community-informed process, working alongside local voices to develop a hand-painted mural that speaks to connection, identity, and place. Through workshops and conversations, the artwork will emerge from genuine engagement rather than predetermined concepts.

This commission offers something rare: complete creative control paired with authentic community support. The artist will mentor an emerging Dharug artist throughout the journey, sharing both the creative process and the physical act of painting on-site.

Set on a compressed fibre cement wall measuring 3.2m x 5.7m, the mural will serve as a cultural gateway – welcoming visitors while asserting First Nations presence in this busy retail precinct. The $18,720 commission covers everything from initial community engagement through to final installation.

We’re seeking an artist whose practice reflects cultural connection and collaboration. No design is required at this stage, just a sense of how you’d approach the opportunity.

The process runs from artist selection in September 2025 through to completion in March 2026, with dedicated time for community engagement before moving to the painting phase.
