Holidays are the ideal time for kids and teens to get creative. Here's a selection of short courses and workshops to develop the inner artist in children of all ages.



See your children shine with NIDA training

Australia’s most prestigious drama school is opening its doors to children this summer. Expand their world with everything from acting and musical theatre to special effects make-up, writer’s bootcamp and costume design, to the ever popular ‘Go Viral!’ presenting course.


 


ATYP summer holiday drama workshops

The national youth theatre company has devised a fantastic program of drama workshops for young people to be inspired and entertained throughout January. With workshops in acting, short film making, YouTube presenting and imagination stretching for our littlest drama fans.

Bunjil Place is the place to be these school holidays with free crafts and workshops, water fountains, movie nights, amazing shows and our awesome new exhibition to keep the littlies entertained … plus a lil’ something extra for the grown-ups.



 



Art workshops at Penrith Regional Gallery
AGES: 3-16 yo | 20–24 Jan 2020

PRG learning programs offer a range of educational and recreational workshops themed around our current exhibitions. All materials are supplied, all skill levels are welcome, and kids need to wear old clothes and bring a snack.



 



Story Time: Australian Children’s Literature

Did you know that Mem Fox’s iconic children’s book, Possum Magic was rejected 9 times before being published? Explore the many manuscripts that the National Library holds include preliminary notes and proofing copies that provide insight into the creative process of writing and illustrating a book.

Makerspace workshops at Darling Square Library
AGES: 12-15 yo | 6-20 Jan 2020

City of Sydney’s brand new library near Darling Harbour has a great program of hands-on workshops in January. Kids can learn 3D printing, create a gear-driven drawing machine or make paper-circuit sculptures with glowing LEDs. These fun 3-hour workshops are led by experienced STEAM educators in the Ideas Lab.






School holiday programs at National Art School
AGES: 6-15  | 13-17 / 20-24 Jan 2020

With small groups, individual attention and an emphasis on creativity and experimentation, the NAS holiday programs are a great way to begin or extend a life in art. All classes take place in a creative studio environment and are given by artist-lecturers who have a deep and practical knowledge of the endless possibilities art offers to young people.
