Despite a collapsed roof, burst water pipes and 12,000 litres of water flooding its home at South Melbourne Town Hall, the show goes on at ANAM.

The South Melbourne Town Hall is a grand municipal building constructed between 1879 and 1880 and restored in 2004 with state government assistance.

It is home to the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), which almost ceased operations in 2008 when then-Federal Arts Minister Peter Garrett announced plans to cut its $2.6 million in funding and merge ANAM with another institution. Following an outcry by staff and students, and a public campaign, plans to close ANAM were shelved.
