The 2013 Visual Arts Awards will be awarded tonight at the Brisbane Powerhouse. This year’s recipients are artist Fiona Foley and writer-curator Julie Ewington. The two were nominated for the awards by their peers.

Foley was nominated by Victoria Reichelt for her numerous professional achievements both nationally and internationally and her work as a ‘fearless advocate for Indigenous political and social equality’. She is currently Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland and has been a resident artist at the University of Wollongong in 2006, Sydney College of the Arts in 2006 and Redgate Gallery, Beijing in 2010.
