Eight artists receive 2018 Australia Council Awards

Eight recipients have been recognised by the peer-nominated Awards, which recognise and celebrate significant contributions to the artistic and cultural vibrancy of the nation.

 Liz Jones, who has served as Artistic Director of Carlton’s La Mama Theatre for almost 45 years; innovative choreographer Phillip Adams, the founder and Artistic Director of Phillip Adams BalletLab; and NT-based community cultural development worker Christian (Bong) Ramilo are among the eight artists and arts workers honoured in this year’s Australia Council awards.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management. Richard is a life member of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, and was awarded the status of Melbourne Fringe Living Legend in 2017. In 2020 he was awarded the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards' Facilitator's Prize.
