Marrugeku is seeking a highly organised, motivated PRODUCER to drive and deliver our dynamic program of activity nationally and internationally.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: PRODUCER (Maternity Leave)
Marrugeku is seeking a PRODUCER to drive and deliver our dynamic program of activity nationally and internationally including presenting and touring our live dance theatre productions, workshops, residencies and laboratories. We are looking for a highly organised, motivated person with great attention to detail, an ability to multi-task across a wide range of projects and thrive in a fast paced environment. In addition, we are looking for a candidate who is professional, respectful, culturally aware who possess a commitment to furthering Marrugeku’s purpose in line with our organisational values.
Marrugeku has an aim to increase the diversity of the organisation’s core team, and so preference will be given to First People’s candidates.
This is a maternity leave position with a fixed term engagement for a 12-month period with options to extend this engagement as mutually agreed.
Position Title: Producer
Hours of work : Full-Time, Fixed-Term 12 months (Maternity Leave) (38 hours a week – days and hours in the office are flexible)
Location: Sydney or Broome
Salary: $85,000 to $95,000 per annum commensurate with experience + superannuation
ABOUT THE COMPANY
MARRUGEKU is Australia’s leading Indigenous intercultural dance theatre company based in Broome, and Sydney’s Carriageworks, with an office also located in Perth.
Marrugeku pursues powerful new forms of cultural knowledge and the survival, preservation and growth of Indigenous story, dance and language through the making of new intercultural performance work. Marrugeku’s performers come from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, collaborating to co-create each production. Our productions tour throughout the Kimberley region, and Australia, to other Indigenous contexts internationally and throughout the world.
Marrugeku is led by co-Artistic Directors: choreographer/dancer Dalisa Pigram and director/dramaturg Rachael Swain. Working together for 30 years, they co-conceive and facilitate Marrugeku’s productions and research projects, introducing audiences to the unique and potent structures of Indigenous knowledge systems and the compelling experience of intercultural performance. KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Marrugeku is managed by a Management Team consisting of the Co-Artistic Director/CEOs and the General Manager/CFO, and this Management Team reports to the Board of Marrugeku Inc.
The Producer reports to the General Manager and both Co-Artistic Director/CEOs (Dalisa Pigram and Rachael Swain). The Producer works closely with the Co-Artistic Directors on the overall realisation and delivery of Marrugeku’s program.
The following positions work alongside the Producer:
- Administrator
- Technical Manager
- Production Managers
- Strategy Consultant
- Project Staff (performers, seasonal production crew, contracted creative artists)
- IT support service
- Digital and Web (contractor)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management
- Deliver and produce Marrugeku’s live productions including creative developments, presentations and touring as well as sector development activities; residencies, workshops, and laboratories in Australia nationally and internationally.
- Scope, develop and manage project budgets including tracking income, expenditure, reconciliation and project budget line reporting to General Manager.
- Oversee and prepare contracts with artists, creatives and production staff as employees, contractors and casuals, in collaboration with General Manager.
- Negotiate and prepare contracts for venues and presenters in collaboration with General Manager
- Build and maintain strong relationships and trust with Marrugeku creatives and performers, community members, partners and presenters.
- Liaise with the project teams to administer pre-production and the technical requirements of all tours, project/tour schedules and deliverables.
- Oversee logistical requirements for domestic and international activities including locations, flights, accommodation, ground travel, visas and other logistics, and concise information for the tour party.
- Manage external communications across key stakeholders and presenting partners, festival staff, producers and departments.
Marketing and Communications
- Co-ordinate documentation of performances and activities through video and photography.
- Co-ordinate marketing collateral and provision of publicity material for all company activities: marketing kits, company brochure, programs.
- Maintain and update Marrugeku’s media and marketing inventory – video content on vimeo, image library, marketing collateral and ‘For Presenters’ folder on box, and website.
- Liaise with presenters on PR and Media activities to facilitate the coordination of media releases, interviews with Marrugeku company, media filming and photography, reviews, and manage sign off process internally.
- Manage sign off process of marketing materials with presenting partners/venues.
- Liaise with venues on ticketing and manage invitation lists and manage RSVP’s and comp tickets.
Funding
- Support the General Manager with grant processes including applications, reporting, acquittals, and contract obligations.
- Support the General Manager with data collection, project evaluations, and tracking artistic development.
- Assist the General Manager with fundraising activities and donor relationship management.
- Liaise with industry personnel, funding bodies as required.
General
- Support the General Manager as may be reasonably required.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Experience and understanding of working with First Peoples Culture and Communities in the arts.
- Demonstrated experience in the performing arts in similar role, with at least five years experience.
- Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills alongside practical producing contracting and budgeting experience.
- Capacity to work autonomously, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and show initiative.
- Excellent communications skills and ability to work with a diverse range of people; including artists, presenters, stakeholders and First Peoples and diverse communities.
- Enthusiastic and hard working attitude and an openness to learn.
