The Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA) is seeking a creative, strategic, and highly organised professional to lead our flagship National Conference – a keystone event that connects professionals, volunteers, sector researchers and leaders, drives innovation, and reflects the diversity of Australia’s cultural landscape.AMaGA is the national peak body and membership association for museums and galleries, spanning major institutions to regional museums and galleries, historic sites, and the cultural collections sector. We champion the sector through advocacy, professional development, and connection.
The Role:As Conference Convenor, you will lead end-to-end planning and delivery of the AMaGA National Conference. Working closely with internal teams, committees, and external partners, you will shape the conference vision and oversee all aspects of execution – from program design and stakeholder engagement to logistics, communications, and on-the-ground delivery.This is a fixed-term, project-based role offering flexibility and creative ownership, operating part-time across most of the year with increased hours during the lead-up and delivery period.
Key Responsibilities:• Lead planning, management, and delivery of the National Conference
• Develop and deliver an engaging, innovative conference program
• Manage budget, timelines, and reporting requirements
• Coordinate AMaGA branches, networks, committees, and sub-committees
• Build relationships with partners, sponsors, and industry contributors
• Oversee communications, marketing, and media engagement
• Manage event logistics, registrations, and on-site operations
• Coordinate the AMaGA National Awards program
• Support future host city selection processes
• Deliver post-event evaluation and documentation
What You’ll Bring:• Strong knowledge of the museum and gallery sector
• Proven experience delivering large-scale conferences or similar events
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Strong project management and budgeting capabilities
• High digital literacy, including event management systems
• A collaborative, adaptable approach with the ability to work autonomously
