ABOUT THE GRAND ELECTRIC

The Grand Electric is a busy live entertainment venue in Sydney, presenting a diverse program of theatre, cabaret, circus and live performance.

Part of the Strut & Fret family, The Grand Electric presents live entertainment experiences and brings together talented performers, creatives and production teams.

Our team is passionate about live performance, creativity and the people who make it all happen.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Lighting & Audio Operator to join our team at The Grand Electric in Sydney.

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves live entertainment, enjoys working with great people and has the technical skills to deliver high-quality live performances.

You’ll be responsible for operating lighting and audio during performances, programming lighting, maintaining technical equipment and supporting rehearsals and production changeovers.

We’re particularly interested in someone who enjoys lighting programming and wants the opportunity to contribute creatively to the work on our stage.

You’ll work closely with our technical, production and creative teams to ensure performances run smoothly and consistently.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, brings a positive attitude and enjoys being part of a collaborative team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate lighting and audio for live performances.
  • Program and operate lighting using ETC control systems.
  • Operate and program QLab 5 for show playback.
  • Prepare and check lighting, audio and playback systems before performances.
  • Support technical rehearsals, production changeovers and new shows.
  • Work with creative teams to develop and refine lighting programming.
  • Assist with maintaining technical equipment and ensuring systems are performance-ready.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during rehearsals and performances.
  • Work closely with performers, stage management, production teams and venue staff.
  • Contribute to a safe, professional and positive working environment.

SELECTION CRITERIA

We’re looking for someone with strong technical skills and an equally strong approach to working with people.

The following skills and experience are essential:

  • ETC lighting console programming and operation experience.
  • Experience operating live audio for theatrical performances.
  • Intermediate or higher QLab 5 programming and operation skills.
  • Experience working in live theatre, cabaret, circus or entertainment venues.
  • Confidence troubleshooting lighting, audio and playback systems.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A positive attitude and a collaborative approach to working with others.
  • The ability to take initiative, solve problems and work independently when required.

Experience with lighting design, programming new productions or working in a busy performance venue would be highly regarded.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is great to work with, takes pride in their work and enjoys being part of a team.

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

This is a full-time position supporting the performance program at The Grand Electric.

During regular performance seasons, the role generally follows a five-day working week, Wednesday to Sunday.

Outside regular performance periods, or during production changeovers, technical rehearsals and installations, the role may require availability across six days per week.

Flexibility is important, as working hours and days will vary depending on the venue’s production schedule.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

WHY JOIN US?

You’ll be joining a great team that values creativity, collaboration and the people who make live entertainment happen.

We offer:

  • A full-time position in an established live entertainment venue.
  • A varied role combining lighting programming, audio operation and live performance.
  • Opportunities to contribute creatively through lighting programming and show development.
  • The opportunity to work alongside experienced production and creative teams.
  • A collaborative workplace where your ideas, experience and contribution are valued.
