About the National Art School

The National Art School (NAS) is Australia’s leading independent art school. We are a ‘not-for-profit’ independent Higher Education Institution offering accredited degree programs in Fine Art at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Our distinctive studio-based teaching model; our outstanding academic faculty; and our dedicated campus support the delivery of exceptional education programs that lead to the outstanding student experience and graduate outcomes for which we are widely recognised.

The NAS campus includes specialised facilities in the studio areas of Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photomedia, Printmaking and Sculpture, and core studies in Art History & Theory and Professional Studies.

We currently offer degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA), Master of Fine Art (MFA) and Doctor of Fine Art (DFA). Our updated academic and strategic plans include a commitment to the continued evolution of our courses and subject offerings, with updated degree program structures being implemented from 2026.

 Head of Learning and Teaching

The National Art School is seeking an outstanding and experienced arts educator to join us as Head of Learning and Teaching.

The successful candidate will provide academic leadership including working closely with the Heads of academic departments and programs to lead the development and implementation of learning and teaching activities of higher education programs. This includes the development and delivery of curricula, the management of departmental staff and the development of learning and teaching resources.

The Head of Learning and Teaching is expected to provide artistic and scholarly leadership through professional example and will have a track record of original and innovative contributions to the advancement of scholarship, research and teaching within their respective field.

The Head of Learning and Teaching will provide leadership and management of the higher education programs of the National Art School in keeping with the strategic priorities of the School.

What you bring to the role

The successful candidate will bring:

  • A commitment to academic excellence including the development of innovative and inclusive, student-centered pedagogies.
  • Substantial experience of academic leadership including course and curriculum design in the Fine Arts and/or related fields.
  • Substantial experience in the development and implementation of Teaching and Learning related policy and practice.
  • Extensive knowledge of, and commitment to, ‘best practice’ standards in course development and delivery.
  • Extensive knowledge of regulatory standards including the Australian Higher Education Standards Framework (HESF) and Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
  • A record of original and innovative contributions to the advancement of scholarship, research and teaching within your field of specialisation.
  • Postgraduate qualifications at AQF level 10 or equivalent professional experience.
