Executive Producer
Force Majeure is looking for an Executive Producer as the company enters an exciting era with the recent appointment of its new Artistic Director.
Force Majeure is one of Australia’s leading producers of movement-based performance. The company has a history of creating ground-breaking work that transcends cultural boundaries and invites reflection on contemporary issues.
In January 2026, Nick Power was announced as Force Majeure’s third Artistic Director. Nick is a recognised pioneer of devised hip hop dance that integrates contemporary choreographic practice and brings street styles into the theatre. As Artistic Director, Nick will build on Force Majeure’s legacy of collaborative creation, experimentation and support of emerging artists.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Force Majeure is looking for an Executive Producer as the company enters an exciting new era with the recent appointment of Artistic Director/CEO Nick Power.
With the creation of new work underway in Australia and the Pacific, Force Majeure has a strong new direction involving street dance, contemporary performance practice, long-term community engagement, and sector development. The new Executive Producer will play a key role working alongside the Artistic Director on this exciting new chapter for the company.
This opportunity would suit a producer who has experience working in or leading small to medium arts organisations. It allows for the flexibility of a part-time role, moving to full-time for project delivery where budget permits and it is an opportunity to work with an artform that is gaining strong momentum in the contemporary performing arts sector in Australia and across the world. In this role you will work closely with artists and be a part of meaningful, community-engaged projects that have scope to tour nationally and internationally.
The successful candidate will support the Artistic Director to develop and deliver the artistic program including new work, skills and sector development programs, touring, and community engagement. The Executive Producer will collaborate with the Artistic Director to lead and drive the development of the company’s strategic vision, goals and outcomes.
We are looking for someone with a collaborative approach who pro-actively looks for opportunities, is entrepreneurial and has a strong knowledge of the Australian performing arts landscape.
Our office is currently in Sydney. Our Artistic Director works between Newcastle and Sydney. We welcome applications from candidates in either city or would also consider a remote working arrangement.
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER ROLE:
The Executive Producer (part-time 0.6 FTE) works alongside the Artistic Director (AD), leading and driving the development and delivery of Force Majeure’s strategic vision, goals and outcomes. The Executive Producer and Artistic Director are jointly responsible for internal and external stakeholder management. They lead the organisation as a team, ensuring Force Majeure is recognised as an artistic and industry leader locally, nationally and internationally.
Responsibilities:
Producing
- Support the Artistic Director in the development and delivery of an annual artistic program that reflects the artistic ambitions and goals of the company
- Pitch new works (in collaboration with the AD) to festivals, presenters, commissioners, co-producers, touring consortiums and key stakeholders
- Act as end-to-end producer for projects and productions, negotiating with presenters, and executing national and international performance seasons and the delivery of presentations
- Undertake national and international market development, building upon existing opportunities, identify new opportunities and pursue new markets for Force Majeure in line with the artistic ambitions and direction
Governance
- Attend Board meetings and strategic planning days and prepare, with the support of the Artistic Director and Accounts Manager, management and finance reports for the Board
- Work with Board and staff to develop strategic business and marketing plans as required
- Oversee the ongoing long-term development and running of the company, in collaboration with the AD
- Provide acquittal reports (written, financial and verbal) to the Board of Directors, funding bodies and other key stakeholders as required
- Line-manage the Marketing Associate and Accounts Manager, and any project producers or other contractors as applicable
- Ensure all artistic and infrastructure costs run to budget
- Set and attend meetings with funding bodies, trusts or foundations to sustain relationships, build presence and seek opportunities for additional funding
- Build, strengthen and enrich strong and positive working relationships with key stakeholders, all the time projecting a professional, amenable and approachable perception of the company
Advocacy
- Represent the company to presenters and promoters both national and international, including attendance at international forums and performing arts markets
- Provide sector leadership through participation in industry events, seminars or media opportunities
Marketing and Development
- Oversee all marketing/communication strategies, supported by the Marketing Associate
- Seek and secure market development opportunities and pitch for inclusion at arts markets
- With the Artistic Director and Board members, identify and pursue philanthropic revenue including from individuals and foundations.
Financial Management
- Proactively identify and build diverse sources of income
- Manage the identification and negotiation of government and philanthropic partnerships
- Undertake financial planning and management, including preparation of budgets, monitoring of financial performance and analysis of financial data
- Review, approve and process payroll, reimbursements, petty cash, invoices, banking and credit cards
General Management
- Oversee organisational operations including insurances, IT systems, communications infrastructure, storage, logistics, and audit processes
- Maintain and manage the relationship with the organisation’s landlord, Shopfront Arts Coop
- Ensure all company policies and procedures are reviewed in line with boardapproved timelines, updated as required
- Manage core HR functions including staff induction, leave, contracting, performance concerns, and complaints, ensuring fair, transparent, and compliant processes.
- Oversee WHS supervision, including risk assessment, incident management and coordination of work cover claims.
Skills
- High level experience as a producer of contemporary performance or senior manager in an arts organisation
- A proven ability to think strategically and problem solve
- Experience with contracting and negotiating with artists and artistic partners
- Ability to identify and negotiate funding opportunities in both government and private sectors
- Good understanding of the technical aspects of theatrical production
- An ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with artists, artistic and production teams and individuals, including staff members
- A comprehensive understanding of the producing process, including budgeting, time management, scheduling; and the skills required to lead and bring together artistic, production and technical elements in the realisation of a new work
- Excellent ability and confidence to network, lobby and represent the company and the sector on an industry and public platform
- High level written communication skills in different contexts including report writing, marketing content, pitch documents, and direct communication
