- Exceptional opportunity for visionary theatre maker to develop, produce and present work of scale and significance
Established in 1991, Black Swan has had an enormous cultural and social impact in Perth, in Western Australia and also nationally and internationally.
Over our 35-year history we have produced over 225 productions, conducted 62 national tours and collaborations, held 47 world premieres and 7 international tours and collaborations, and travelled the length and breadth of Western Australia.
From its earliest years Black Swan has been celebrated for original works, Western Australian stories, site-specific productions, major festival presentations and cross‑cultural collaborations that elevate and honour Aboriginal artists. That legacy remains at the company’s core.
As audience appetite for live theatre has returned in recent years post-COVID, Black Swan has responded with a rich slate of new works, award‑winning performances and national partnerships that has seen strong box office and critical success.
Our leadership team since 2022 of CEO Ian Booth and Artistic Director Kate Champion have overseen a period of organisational stability and growth in all key metrics for the Company that has delivered acclaimed seasons featuring bold Australian works, Perth Festival collaborations, and major commissions and co-productions with companies across Australia.
The company’s board governance, financial stability and philanthropic partnerships are very sound and remain critical enablers of our mission and are essential to the success of the company.
As Black Swan enters its 35th year we remain committed to the belief that theatre is a catalyst for social change by creating theatre that is entertaining, challenging and inspiring. Amongst our key priorities over the next few years are securing long-term venue security, increasing the number of new works in development, world premieres and co-productions nationally and internationally, and increased attendance across diverse sectors of the community
The company stands at an exciting moment, expanding its artistic horizons, embracing new voices and sharing Western Australian stories with the world.
We are seeking a visionary, entrepreneurial and creative theatre-maker who can build on the strengths of the company and be a key contributor to Black Swan’s future. It is an exciting opportunity to realise our ambitions for developing, producing and presenting theatre of scale, significance and engagement through a clear and creative artistic vision.
