Your inspiration may be a stash of mementos from a dusty attic, an interest in a particular time and place, a ton of research, or perhaps a wistful desire to time-travel. Your tale may be traditional or experimental, set entirely in the past, or in a mix of time-frames. Whether you have work-in-progress or something at the early concept stage, this workshop is for you.

Bring a significant object that connects with your historical fiction idea as well as pen and paper or a fully charged device to participate in the writing exercises.

How to focus your ideas and shape your material 

How to discover compelling stories and settings

How to hone your creative writing craft 

How to develop your unique writing voice

How to analyse and use different writing techniques

About the tutor:

Italian Australian author Elise Valmorbida won the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for her fourth novel, The Madonna of the Mountains, published internationally in several languages to critical acclaim. She has written three works of non-fiction, including The Happy Writing Book, a positive guide to creative writing and wellbeing, which was inspired by more than 20 years experience as writer-teacher.
