Finding inspiration in your daily life and experiences in the world, you will craft a new poem in a modern spoken-word style. Explore a range of poetic structures and incorporate techniques such as rhyme, metaphor and repetition, finessing their poem on paper and aloud. Sharing work-in-progress with each other, you will practice presentation tricks such as dynamics and rhythm, and gain confidence in front of an audience and get ready for the WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? exhibition closing Open Mic event.
No previous writing or performance experience is required. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, and those who are old hands.
Suitable for ages 14+. Please note that poetry can sometimes touch on complex adult themes or potentially distressing content. Participants are not expected to censor their work so children under 18 should be accompanied by a responsible adult who can monitor their wellbeing. Non-participating adults are free of charge. Please contact Megan if you have any questions.
This workshop will be held in the surrounds of the WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY? group exhibition at TBH Studio, which runs from 4th – 28th February. The space is not private, so please be aware there may be general public in the vicinity while we work together.
