Platform Arts is thrilled to present Villain Edit, the mid-career survey of Naarm Melbourne-based artist Georgia Banks.

Sometimes you really can blame the edit…For over 5 years, artist Georgia Banks has rigorously delved into the world of Reality TV and AI—exploring ideas of death, fame and legacy—to fearlessly provoke viewers into critically engaging with the ineffable ways these mediums shape and influence our identities, relationships and the zeitgeist of our nation. Villain Edit offers regional audiences the opportunity to see Banks’ remarkable works together for the first time. Villain Edit brings together three key works spanning 2020 – 2023 (A Four Letter Word, Remains to be Seen, and DataBaes) into an ambitious and timely exhibition, which will be Banks’ first large-scale, solo institutional project. Villain Edit is accompanied by an eponymous publication, edited by Madé Spencer-Castle and featuring contributions by Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Ari Tampubolon, Diego Ramirez, and Anador Walsh. Exhibition dates: SAT 02 AUG—FRI 26 SEPOpening event: SAT 02 AUG at 4:30PM—6:30PM with an artist talk at 3:30PMAttendance is free, but registration is appreciated to help us cater for the event.

Villain Edit offers audiences the chance to experience Banks’ most significant works together for the first time: A Four Letter Word (2020), Remains to be Seen (2021), and DataBaes (2022-23). The exhibition is accompanied by a publication of the same name, edited by Madé Spencer-Castle, with contributions from Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Ari Tampubolon, Diego Ramirez, and Anador Walsh.Alongside Villain Edit, Banks will make her theatrical debut, in a new live work Death Warmed Up, that places audiences on the set of a fictitious, live-taped reality television show, through a staged immersive dinner theatre event. Death Warmed Up extrapolates on Banks’ research into Reality TV culture, and imagines a world where amateur chefs vie for the opportunity to cater the funerals of public figures. On September 19 & 20, audiences are invited to join Banks for dinner and a show, and to cross the threshold into the world of the un/scripted.

This project has been supported by Copyright Agency Cultural Fund, APHIDS Supermassive Program, and Temperance Hall.
