The rain falls fast and heavy. The trees disappear in the downpour. A blur of green, red and gold. Reappearing as the showers ease, they glisten, swell and shimmer.
Unknowing presents a new body of work inspired by Larkin’s time on residency at Eramboo, which she was awarded through the Paddington Art Prize 2024. Larkin’s residency in August 2025 coincided with two weeks of torrential rain. Leaping at brief windows between showers (or on the rare clear day), many of these paintings were created amongst the eucalypts, wildflowers and squawking black cockatoos of Ku-ring-Gai National Park, which surrounds the gallery at Eramboo and whose presence was so intrinsic to the creation of this body of work.
“Sitting in the bush with my paints for stretches of time, sharing space with other animals, I observe the different ways they move through this world.
Here, I am reminded with acute clarity how I am just one animal sharing this earth and how much I do not know.
Embracing the experience of unknowing invites a celebration of different ways of being, of the diverse intelligence of other beings.”
