Tillsammans och Isär — Teva Cosic’s The Pool Grant 14 Exhibition Opens 10 July at 126 Rupert Street, Collingwood

Teva Cosic will debut her solo exhibition, Tillsammans och Isär (‘Together and Apart’), opening 10 July at 126 Rupert Street, Collingwood. The exhibition, running until Saturday, 26 July, was made possible with funding from The Pool Grant.

This bold and vivid photographic collection intertwines Cosic’s mixed Swedish heritage with her home in Australia. Through folkloric archetypes and inverted markers of family and femininity, Cosic presents a profound exploration of themes such as dislocation and the complex concept of home.

“The work addresses broader themes of migration, identity, home, and belonging, drawing on personal experiences as a second/third generation migrant living in Australia,” says Cosic. “I’m interested in how culture is carried with us from one country to another — how it’s passed down, documented, remembered, forgotten, told, re-told, enacted, fractured, and pieced back together.” The works invite viewers into a realm of wonder and uncertainty, featuring visuals that are both intimate and surreal, spontaneous and carefully staged.

Teva Cosic (b. 1994) graduated with First Class Honours and the Vice-Chancellor’s list award from the RMIT photography program in 2021. Her research and practice delve into the intricate dynamics of family and cultural history, exploring how we create and sustain social, cultural, and emotional connections through images and image-making practices. She is a previous finalist of the National Photographic Portrait Prize.

Launched in 2010, The Pool Grant is an independent initiative of The Pool Collective that provides a $10,000 cash grant, an additional $10,000 in exhibition funding, and a year of mentorship from Pool’s artists and makers to conceptualise and produce a solo exhibition. It was established to support the development of emerging talent in the region. Teva’s exhibition marks the final grant in its current format. A formal announcement regarding the grant’s future direction from 2026 onwards is schedule for opening night.
