Clive Murray-White and Michelle Caithness: The Reciprocal Eye, pays homage to a rich heritage of traditional Western art practices, demonstrating a deep respect for materials and an intimate connection with the act of creation. Focusing on a dialogue between the two artists, the exhibition shows the transformative impact of mark-making across mediums and explores the intimacy of collaboration.
Murray-White’s works often uncover forms seemingly hidden within the raw material of stone. Drawing upon the Italian style of Non-Finito, a technique of leaving part of the sculpture in its raw state, they are filled with tension between the recognizable and the primordial timelessness of the stone. Caithness’ works on paper and canvas explore the emergence of forms through the manipulation of texture, light and colour, uncovering dialogues that integrate memories and cyclic experiences. The works on display are shared impressions that resonate with intellectual curiosity to explore the depths of human experience.

Clive Murray-White has exhibited extensively since 1967 and participated in group shows including the Sydney Biennale (1973, 1976). His work is represented in private and public collections such as the Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria & New Parliament House, Canberra.
Michelle Caithness graduated from Victoria College, Prahran in 1991 and completed a Masters of Visual Art at Monash University in 2018. She has exhibited nationally and has been a finalist for The Dobell Drawing Prize, The Kedumba Drawing Award and the Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Art.
