Artist talk – Saturday 29 November 2pm | Join Maarten for a gallery tour and artist talk discussing both the exhibition and the residency that seeded this investigation.
Swamp Reading shares a multi-media reflection of an extended residency undertaken intermittently over a seven-year period at Lot 50-Kanyanyapilla (L50K). L50K is an ecological and cultural regeneration site located near McLaren Vale in the City of Onkaparinga overseen by visual artist and cultural geographer Dr Gavin Malone.
Dr Malone is arguably one of the most informed established artists, academics and intellectual custodians in regard to matters pertaining to indigenous ecology and cultures, particularly in South Australia. Across 2022, Dr Daudeij held monthly interviews with Dr Malone, to develop a major document which reflects and seeks to capture the knowledge embodied by Dr. Malone. As an unfolding project Daudeij strives to ensure this steward’s vast knowledge will be available for future generations.
The exhibition presents a series of experiments engaging different formats. Ultimately these works will continue to develop to form a fully-fledged legacy document and major work, honed from the wealth of research material gathered to honour and reflect the wisdoms of Dr Malone and the discoveries of L50K habitats and environs.
Sauerbier House is open: Wed – Fri 10-4pm, Saturdays 1-4pm. Closed public holidays.
