This exhibition brings together Andrew Tomkins’ lifelong graphic depiction of local
environments under threat from global warming and rising sea levels. Featured locations
are those that are, or once were critically endangered, this includes the Badu mangroves at
Homebush Bay. These mangroves, once an industrial wasteland is now a world recognised
estuarine wetland. Another site of focus is the Chain of Ponds, an award-winning restoration
of a section of the Cooks River, which disappointingly, again is under threat.
This exhibition aims to foster an appreciation of our local environment with the hope to
stimulate concern for the future of all natural places. The question is, how safe really are
these marginal wetlands?
Andrew Tomkins is represented by Art Atrium.
