After 40 years as a beloved staple in the Australian music industry, 90’s indie rock icon Rebecca Barnard performs her album The Night We Called it a Day live at The Count’s.

The album is a culmination of years of Rebecca’s life in music – a resplendent arrival in sunny pastures by one of Australia’s cultural treasures. Rebecca effortlessly breathes soul and connectivity into this album of refreshingly under-exposed jazz standards dating from 1937-1963.

The production style is reminiscent of artists such as Madeleine Peyroux and Melody Gardot, making the album more accessible to a mainstream audience than the word ‘jazz’ might imply. Produced and arranged by pianist/composer Monique diMattina, it features stunning performances from the creme of the jazz/roots scene: Sam Lemann on guitar, Ben Robertson on Bass, Paul Williamson on sax and Steve Grant on trumpet. Rebecca’s son Harry O’Mara carries on the Barnard legacy, guesting on drums.

Recorded by Pat Telfer at Brian Brown Studios (VCA) and mixed by Shane O’Mara at Yikesville, this local production has an international and ageless resonance for a broad audience of music lovers. Hear the album live at The Counts June 12.

Doors 6.30pm, band on stage at 7.30pm
