An installation that explores the emotional toll of disconnection in modern society. Despite our ever-expanding network of digital interactions, studies reveal a growing sense of separation.
Loneliness is one of the major health epidemics of the 21st century, affecting all ages and cultures globally. According to research by the organisation ‘Ending Loneliness Together’ a national organisation underpinned by lived experience, research, community, government and health expertise cites that 1 in 3 Australians feel lonely at any given time, 1 in 4 Australians are persistently lonely including 41% of young people ages 18-24, and these numbers are on the increase.
“Conversations with participants have uncovered recurring feelings of emptiness, isolation disconnection and rejection. Through this work, I aim to materialise the often intangible sensations of being lonely and undervalued in a hyper-connected yet emotionally distant world. These individually constructed womb-like spaces amplify the sense of estrangement from social environments, underscoring themes of disposability and detachment.” – Patrick Rychner
