The NT Writers Festival returns to Garramilla / Darwin 28-31 May, with a vibrant hub at the Museum and Art Gallery of the NT. Not just for readers and writers, this festival is for anyone who loves stories and will bring exciting artists from around Australia and the NT to be in conversation with local storytellers. 

60 artists will gather on Larrakia Country to explore the theme NAVIGATING. Across performances, walks, deep conversations and immersive experiences, the remarkable line-up including Omar Musa, Hannah Moloney, Ali Cobby Eckermann, Djon Mundine, Zoe Terakes, Micaela Sahhar, Jack Latimore, Samah Sabawi, Juno Gemes, Jeanine Leane, Melanie Saward, Natalia Figueroa Barroso, Kate Wild, and more. A rich program unfolds across the weekend, with featured events offering a glimpse of the storytelling on offer:

The Village If you want to go far, go together. Introducing The Village, an interactive afternoon to slow down and become fully present. We’ll share stories, map our futures, and fill the festival with song, creating space to gather, listen and be together. 

Weaving Our Stories Through conversation, poetry, visual art and ceremony, Larrakia, Tiwi, Torres Strait, Yanyuwa, Garrwa and Pacific women embody sacred resistance to protect Country, climate and communities. 

Playwrights & Provocateurs Yvette Walker curates the event series Playwrights & Provocateurs at  Brown’s Mart. From intimate sessions on craft with luminaries like Jane Harrison, Jada Alberts and Raimonda Cortese, to a razor-sharp panel on censorship with Jeanine Leane, Micaela Sahhar and Joelistics, this incredible day will draw back the curtain on crucial elements of artmaking.

Waves of Belonging A night of storytelling, poetry and music celebrating ties between South Asia and the Top End. Writers, musicians and poets share words that traverse saltwater, memory, migration and belonging. Curated by James Mangohig and featuring Omar Musa, Joelistics, Cyan Sue-Lee, Melanie Mununggurr and Grace Dong. 

In Conversation: Eros with Zoe Terakes Award-winning actor and Darwin favourite Zoe Terakes discusses their new book Eros: Queer Myths for Lovers that retells Greek myths with non-binary and trans mortals and divine beings. CJ Fraser-Bell joins Zoe in conversation to explore queering mythology and storytelling. 

With an extraordinary program spanning monsoon forest walks, a Larrakia cultural trail and storytelling under the stars, you’re invited to gather, listen, celebrate culture and create community. Festival Pass and day pass options are available.
