Arts Mansfield is proud to announce the return of the Klytie Pate Ceramics Award and Exhibition, now in its fifth edition. Opening on Friday 19 September 2025 at MACE (145 High Street, Mansfield), the prestigious biennial award will showcase an inspiring collection of contemporary ceramics from across Australia and New Zealand.

The award was first established in 2016, when Will Twycross proposed a way to honour the creative life of his godmother, the renowned ceramicist Klytie Pate, while fostering excellence in studio pottery. Since then, the Award has become one of Australia’s most highly regarded celebrations of ceramic art.

The 2025 exhibition will present a diverse and innovative field of entries, reflecting the vitality and evolution of the ceramic medium today. The Open Award is generously supported by the ongoing sponsorship of Will Twycross, while the Emerging Artist Award will once again spotlight new talent in the field.

Judging this year’s entries are three leading figures in Australian ceramics:

  • Anna Maas – Director of Skepsi Gallery and ceramics specialist

  • Janet DeBoos – Honorary Senior Lecturer & Emeritus Fellow, ANU School of Art & Design

  • Christopher Sanders – Master potter and Coordinator of Ceramics, RMIT University

The exhibition will be officially launched at a special invite-only Opening Night on 19 September, where the winners will be announced. It will then be open to the public daily from 11am to 3pm, 20 September – 5 October.
