Fiona Heard’s artistic process is an exploration into this continuous process of becoming. She begins each work with the unpredictable nature of hand printing, embracing the unexpected marks and reduced control to create the initial imagery. The composition of these initial works is based on the landscape of Southern NSW, reflecting her memory and ongoing relationship with this environment.
The final artworks are then built through configuration as she tears, combines, and sews these images to produce the work. These artworks move beyond representation evoking a feeling of abstracted familiarity.
