Join us for our first Heritage talk of 2024, as we delve into the Colonial Secretary’s Correspondence to reflect on the 200th anniversary of John Oxley’s journey.
In 1823 and 1824, Oxley explored the Moreton Bay area and environment to determine suitability for a secondary penal colony. Oxley’s recommendations set in motion a series of events with echoing consequences.
Our speakers will explore these consequences through the establishment of the Moreton Bay Penal Colony, the open settlement of Brisbane Town, through to how we live today in Meanjin/Brisbane.
